Try it now! Release Candidate of Version 1.0.0

Hello community!:waving_hand:

After more than a year of development, we are very pleased to finally share with you our first RC (Release Candidate) of version 1.0.0 of Tainacan

This is the first version of Tainacan to bring a set of changes large enough to be considered “breaking,” meaning that a lot has changed.

Over the next few weeks, we want to collect feedback from those who are more adventurous and able to try out the interface changes brought mainly to the Admin Panel, as well as some long-awaited new features. We won’t list everything that has changed here because we still need to prepare this documentation, but those who try it out will see right away: it’s quite a lot.

During these weeks of testing, we will be posting updates explaining the new features and discussing a little bit about why each one was added. Be sure to let us know what you think!

Highlights:

  • A brand new Admin Home Page with cards linking to key areas, documentation, and news.
  • A modernized Admin Interface — more responsive, accessible, and customizable, with adjustments available per user role.
  • Introducing the Settings Page: fine-tune plugin behavior, default views, indexing, and page templates.
  • Say hello to “My Items”: a new way to quickly view items you’ve created.
  • Navigation Revamp: clearer menus and a new sidebar with version info and direct links.
  • Reorganized menus for better usability: reports, exporters, and processes now have their own contextualized places.
  • New Gutenberg block: “Items Related to This”, pulling in related items based on metadata.
  • Developers: get access to new base classes, modular components, form hooks, and improved structure under the hood.

Frequently asked questions

Can I go back to having the Tainacan administrative panel hiding the WordPress panel as it was before? Yes! On the home screen, go to the upper right corner under “Screen Options” and select “Hide WordPress navigation”

How do I install it? Download the .zip file here and in the WordPress Admin Panel go to → Plugins → Add plugins → Upload plugin. After installing, go to any Tainacan page and clear your browser cache for that page at least once (CTRL+SHIFT+R).

I want to go back to the previous version. What do I do? Simply remove the plugin and download the version available in the WordPress plugin repository (0.21.16) again.

What do you mean by “break”? Will I lose my data? No, don’t worry… the new version does not change your repository data. However, it drastically changes where things are located (mostly in the administrative section). In the rare cases where you have made customization via code to the Tainacan administrative interface (such as using environment variables to hide elements), these changes may indeed cease to have effect and code adjustments will be necessary. Links to the admin page may also change if you have ever written one manually in some page or documentation.
